Sunshine State finds talent in outdoor Davenport venue
|
DAVENPORT For the first time in its
history, Talent Quest Sunshine State
headed outdoors for a local final at the
Exit 55 theater behind the Shamrock
Pub March 13.
Beautiful weather brought out the talent
and the largest categories were the
country and pop divisions.
"What a fun place to hold a contest,"
said TQSS co-owner and emcee Steve
Blanchard. "This is a first for us and it
makes you appreciate being in Florida!"
The talent wasn't so bad either. Phil
Garris, head judge and contest
co-owner, said that several standouts
could go far at the regional competition
which is at the Double Tree Westshore
hotel in Tampa April 7-10.
"There were some big voices on that stage today and if they pull together everything-like appearance
and stage presence, Davenport could do really well next month," Garris said.
Overall the contest was full of new faces for the contest, but one of two past competitors made
appearances as well. Overall the mood was a positive one as names were read at the end of the
contest.
"They had fun, and that's the point of this contest," Blanchard said. "But now it's onto business. I think
they'll do well at Talent Quest Sunshine State."
Tickets for non-competitors are available on our "Tickets" link above and a Regional Schedule is also
