Cocoa Beach
Graham's Beach Bar
Small but excited group turn out for Cocoa Beach local
COCOA BEACH It was a small
but very excited group that
showed up for the local
finals at Graham's Beach Bar
on Saturday, March 19. Due
to a conflict, the finals were
moved to the mid-afternoon,
rather than the originally
planned 9 p.m. starting time.
While the crowd was small,
the talent wasn't.
"This is what I love about
this contest," said Phil
Garris, head judge and
contest co-owner. "We walk
into an unassuming bar and
the singers don't know us,
and we don't know them-but
we surprise each other."
More women than men appeared in the local final but there were talented singers throughout the
categories. There were no men's masters contestants, however.
"Cocoa Beach is new territory for us and it's always exciting to share our contest with new people,"
said Steve Blanchard, emcee and contest co-owner. "Like at all of our contests, we met with several
contestants and had a chance to get to know them better and to share with them what happens at the
next level. I could see their excitement about Tampa, and that's why we do this competition."
In all, 12 people advanced and several were in multiple categories. This is the first year any of these
singers have experienced Talent Quest in any form.
Tickets for non-competitors are available on our "Tickets" link above and a Regional Schedule is also
linked at the top of this page.
